The ability to respect and relate to people from various backgrounds and cultures in a sensitive and caring manner
Objective, open minded, and flexible
Good communication skills, both verbal and written
Understanding of and compliance with the rules of confidentiality
The ability to make a minimum of one year commitment
The ability to accept supervision and seek feedback from trained, professional staff
Must be 21 or older
Duties and Responsibilities
Visit, at least monthly, with the child/children to which you are assigned
To read the records and files of the court, Social Service Agency, school, hospital, etc., regarding the child you are advocating for
To interview, research, and evaluate facts and circumstances of the child's life from your investigation and to make independent recommendations to the court
To report any incidents of child abuse and/or neglect to the Office of Community Services or local police department
